Dear City Church Family,
On June 5th, our beloved JoAnne lost her 14-year competition with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and entered the gates of heaven. Many of you have followed her journey while offering prayers, support, friendship and meals. During difficult days, we found refuge within the walls of City Church and among its unique and special family. We have been blessed with these gifts. Our gratitude knows no bounds.
Many months ago, JoAnne received a card from Kathy Sommerville with a note that said among other things, “JoAnne. You live a life that honors God.” So simple and so eloquent. Even an atheist could read that sentence and immediately know JoAnne. Those who followed our blog know that I spent many months, many posts and many words trying to describe JoAnne’s blend of courage, strength, love of others and passion for Christ Jesus. I could have saved everybody a lot of time if I had just been able to compose one sentence as complete as Kathy’s.
There are many things about JoAnne’s death that bring sadness to our hearts. Among them will be her absence from City Church. JoAnne was looking forward to better health and the opportunity to share her life and gifts as a more active member. City Church will be so much the lesser without her among its family, but so much the greater for the fellowship she shared with many of us on her life’s journey.
On Saturday evening, July 14th, we will celebrate JoAnne’s life. Wooddale Church, Edina Campus will be our home away from home with visitation at 6:30 PM and service at 7. Immediately following, we adjourn to International Market Square’s Atrium for a dessert and refreshment reception commemorating JoAnne’s Irish heritage.
We open our arms to all City Church members who have been a part of JoAnne’s journey be it through thought, word, deed or prayer. Please join us for an evening that will at times be tearful, but mostly joyful; just like JoAnne. Please visit our blog for the latest updates, times and directions.
