What Kind of Sunday Would It Be..........

.......without a visit to the Emergency Room? I am entertained occasionally by the website http://www.despair.com/viewall.html  It is a site that makes fun of the ubiquitous motivational posters that line corporate hallways. This one caught my eye for today....

We had a bright Sunday morning for church today. Atypical for Minnesota in February, it was in the 30's and nary a smidge of snow anywhere. While getting settled for the ride home, JoJo, who likes to ride in the back with the grandkids........sometimes........called out that she could use a little help getting car seats and kids situated. I had gotten to the car early, so I got out of the driver's door to help and what did I find? JoJo......on the ground.......flat on her face. I know what you're thinking. We've been here before haven't we? Apparently, in the busyness of loading, JoJo got tangled up with Torben, lost her footing on the sandy driveway, tweaked her ankle and went down. It shocks me how quickly this happens.

It didn't help that she had no breakfast to settle her stomach from the morning medications. She was a little woozy by the time church ended so that probably contributed. We let her languish on the warm asphalt for a bit and determined there were no protruding broken bones. She agreed that a bite of lunch would be beneficial so off we went. Although sore, she seemed to improve and we got her home so she could take a nap.

All seemed well. Our grandson and I headed out for a 4 PM showing of Star Wars Phantom Menace in 3D. Prior to the movie's start, it was hard to ignore the half dozen warnings to silence your cellphone so it wasn't until we were leaving that I picked up the call that Kelly & Delcy had taken JoJo to the ER. She had awakened from her nap in severe pain. I headed to the hospital to relieve Kelly and sit with JoJo who was now whacked out on Dilaudid. Sometimes a drug induced stupor is just the recipe for a quiet evening in the ER. Four hours later, x-rays of the shoulder were negative and a CT scan showed no broken ribs or internal injuries/bleeding. We got her home without further incident and she gingerly crawled back into bed.

The nurse reminder her, "You do realize that with injuries like this the second day is more painful than the first and the third often worse than the second?" JoJo's got that going for her, but she is also equipped with Vicodin so we hope that will take off the edge. It is going to be a few tough days which seems like a high price to pay for just a quick slip. We are both curious as to what extent she gets black and blue. Her blood counts leave her easily bruised and slow to heal. Patience is a virtue. Just another day in the life.

Keep the faith

  1. Oh, dear- so sorry to hear of JoAnne's fall. Do hope you heal quickly, dear friend and that the soreness and stiffness soon resolve. Love- Denise
