JoAnne is in Day 8 of her current stay and is bored out of her mind. It has been a struggle to find the right combination of IV antibiotics that combat the infections without making her overly sick. The doctors have been struggling to find IV Bactrim and were successful, but after a few doses, JoJo was so nauseous they had to stop. They give her Benadryl to moderate the side effects and that makes her very groggy and sleepy, so she isn't much of a conversationalist.
Her sinuses clogged again so they brought in the ENT with his fiber optic camera to take a look. JoJo had tried to clear her nose so hard that she popped a number of blood vessels in and around her eye. I am told that is not uncommon when someone has low platelets. The ENT flushed everything out and JoJo is feeling better in that regard. He also took a culture so there will likely be some added treatment for that in a day or two.

It is pretty quiet around the hospital with the holiday weekend. We are all looking for some positive signs to grab on to. We seem to be stuck in neutral in the battle against the lung fungus and bacteria. All we can go by is JoJo's breathing. Sometimes it is markedly improved and others it is back to wheezy. Was there a dwarf by that name? Hangin' in there is our modus operandi for at least the next couple of days.
