Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch

It is surprising to me how quickly they can get JoJo out of the hospital once they make up their minds and have some good responses. It has been wait, wait, wait for 38 days and then all of a sudden, "You're outta here!" Everybody, especially JoJo is glad that she is out of the hospital and home. She feels pretty good, but her endurance and muscle tone needs attention. It will come in time.

Our home health care regimen is becoming increasingly complicated. More supplies were delivered today. I'm sure we now have enough medical supplies to go to a third world country and perform charitable surgeries. Looking at the daily schedule, I count roughly 50 separate administrations of something like 20 different medications. As mentioned previously, JoJo will be on some of the antibiotics for 6+ weeks and then some others for up to a year. No way this ever turns into a short process. Somewhere in a conversation I was having the last few days, a BMT staff person observed, "It gets better. We get patients 3 years out and most of them you wouldn't even know they'd had a transplant." 3 years. Think about that.

We have a few days off before we return to the clinic. That is a reward in and of itself. It is going to take a few days to re-acclimate to our new setting and get the meds figured out, but it is a nice chore to deal with. Each time we come home, I find myself thinking, "OK. We've got that behind us. Now we can settle down to a more normal routine." One of these times, it is actually going to happen.

Thanks to all for your kind attention, support and prayers. It is hard to describe how much it means to us. Fighting cancer can be a lonely business, but in our case, we are blessed to have so many in our corner. Keep the faith.
